GENDER GAPS IN (RE)PRODUCTIVE ECONOMY
2.11
“Gender sensitive” or “gender responsive”?
Gender-sensitive and gender-responsive policies are two different concepts. This video explores how they apply to Nepal.
If you are aware of how gender influences the opportunities of individuals in society, you are “gender-sensitive”. If you actively address the causes of gender inequality, you are being “gender-responsive”.
When making policies for the labour market, it is useful to consider the difference between the two terms. Using the example of Nepal, Christine Bigler describes some of the challenges in developing and implementing gender-responsive policies.
