ADDRESSING YOUR AUDIENCE
1.7
Avoid using the word «learn»
Avoid using the word «learn» in your texts, i.e. «in this course, you will learn about…». This sounds passive.
Use more concrete words like «assess», «explore», «classify», «collect», «evaluate», etc. These are verbs that indicate active learning.
Examples:
- «In this course, you’ll assess and identify practical steps towards implementing Insecticide Resistance Management.»
- «In this chapter, you will explore how intersectionality and gender roles impact women’s opportunities.»
- «In this activity, you will evaluate different methods of raising revenues for healthcare in Africa.»
