THEORETICAL FOUNDATIONS OF ONE HEALTH
1.5
The influence of culture and religion
Culture and religion shape the attitudes we have when we are talking about our relationship to animals.
For example, cows have always had a strong influence on our culture, starting as prey in hunting and later used for livestock. This left an imprint in our own development. In various religions you find ideas that formulate the relationship between humans and animals, especially in creation myths. This shows that there has always been a closeness in our behaviour to animals.
Watch Jakob Zinsstag explain these issues.
