'COORDINATION IN RHYTHM' – MODAL NOTATION
3.11
Dealing with extensio and fractio modi
In the previous step you have learned to distinguish extensio modi from fractio modi. These two compositional strategies made it possible to soften the strict patterns of modal notation.
By understanding how medieval notation works we get the opportunity to access a huge repertory of music that otherwise would be forgotten.
Now you can assess your ability to decode music of the past written in modal notation. The questions will cover not only the difference between extensio modi and fractio modi but also other topics of this chapter.
Multiple answers are possible.
