PRE-PSYCHOLOGY
2.1
Pre-psychology
Psychology has roots in philosophy, but also the natural and social sciences. The biography of a founding father of psychology, Wilhelm Wundt, helps identify these origins and influences.
Psychology’s birth is often dated to the founding of the first laboratory by Wilhelm Wundt at the University of Leipzig at the end of the 19th century. The video below introduces some of the concepts and ideas that were in place around that time, including those from philosophy, the natural sciences, and the social sciences. They all helped the emergence of this new discipline of the mind.
