PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING
10.1
A Brief History of Psychological Testing
From mental tests to latent constructs: in these steps you explore some of the intricacies of standardized psychological testing and how it evolved.
The measurement of the mind is a fundamental goal of psychology. Standardized psychological testing has helped psychology claim objectivity by allowing the measurement of mental abilities and proclivities. To this end, psychology has had to discover new measures and statistical procedures to treat mental products and behavior as measurable quantities, creating a long-lasting symbiosis between statistical and psychological theory.
